I don't know how widespread the problem is, but in the little corner of Northwestern Pennsylvania where I live it's a huge problem/annoyance. Here, it can't be attributed to a minority ethnic group or tourists because there aren't enough of either to make a difference. Personally, I attribute it to stupid, lazy, inconsiderate people. We DO have plenty of those.

I lived in Bakersfield, CA, a couple of years ago. Oddly, the problem doesn't exist there. Or, if it does, I didn't notice it.

I used to live in Orlando and inconsiderate driving is epidemic there. I think a lot of it has to do with the high influx of people moving in from conjested northern cities, lost and confused tourists and generally bad road signs. Moving to the much larger SF Bay Area, I thought the drivers would be worse, but in fact, I was amazed at how very few people don't use turn signals. They also seem to understand that a turn signal indicates that the person is trying to merge into their lane and they actually slow down to make room!

Maybe its an East Coast/West Coast thing?

I attribute it to an overall lack of common courtesy among people. They just simply don't care about anything or anyone but themselves. We live in a "ME" society that permeates into every aspect of life.
